This is the bit where, according to established convention, I say ‘Welcome to my new blog’. Having spent several minutes trying to come up with something both witty and inspiring so as to avoid saying ‘Welcome to my new blog’ I must admit that I am struggling. This does not bode well. My unclouded vision for this blog was to offer incisive, thought-provoking dissections on life at the command line, underscored with a razor wit and on no account to say something as trite as ‘Welcome to my new blog.’ But on the basis of the first four sentences alone the prognosis for my literary odyssey seems at best shaky. You might by now be harbouring the most severe doubts as to my ability to keep you entertained, stimulated and informed. Doubts that may even have basis in fact. Already I have even, perhaps for the first time in my life, committed the cardinal sin of starting a sentence with the word ‘But’. This alone is a deplorable act, the likes of which I never dreamed I might succumb. To Mrs Long, my teacher from the class of ’83, I can only offer humble contrition. To you, my reader, I can only offer sympathy.
